The 12th Generation Chevrolet Suburban was introduced for the 2021 model year and entered production in July 2020. It uses GM's GMT T1XX platform and carries the internal model code GMT1YC.
The 12th-generation Suburban is the extended-length member of GM's full-size SUV family. It shares its basic architecture with the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon XL, but its longer body and rear structure mean that tailgate components should not be assumed to be interchangeable.
The related GMC Yukon XL uses the GMC counterpart model code GMT1YG. The Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL are separate vehicle fitments even though they share the same platform family.
Model-year updates and facelift changes do not represent a new generation. The current Suburban remains the 12th generation.
